The Porsche 904 Carrera GTS, driven by Innes Ireland with the race number #26, competed in the Silverstone International Grand Touring race on May 2, 1964. This event, known as the 16th Annual International Trophy, was held at the Silverstone Circuit in England. The race started at 10:15 AM and covered a distance of 25 laps. Innes Ireland piloted the 904-025 chassis to a 9th place overall finish and secured 1st place in the GT2.5 class. Out of the 36 cars that entered, 31 were classified in the results.
This particular Porsche 904 was part of the Stirling Moss Automobile Racing Team (S.M.A.R.T.) and was delivered to the team on February 19, 1964, in a distinctive Borneo Green Metallic color. It was equipped with a Sebring exhaust system and powered by a 587/3 engine (engine number 99024), which had demonstrated over 180 horsepower during factory testing. The car had previously raced in the Lavant Cup at Goodwood on March 30, 1964, finishing 6th overall and 3rd in class with Sir John Whitmore behind the wheel.
