At the 1981 San Marino Grand Prix at Imola, Chilean driver Eliseo Salazar tackled the March 811 #17 — a Ford Cosworth-powered but otherwise underdeveloped car campaigned by the small March Grand Prix (RAM Racing) team. Salazar managed to qualify the 811 for the race, a rare achievement for the troubled chassis that struggled all season, but was forced to retire after 38 laps with an engine failure, characteristic of the reliability woes afflicting the package.
