The Mercedes-Benz C11 #31, entered by Team Sauber Mercedes at the 1991 24 Hours of Le Mans, was driven by the young Mercedes “Junior Team” of Michael Schumacher, Karl Wendlinger, and Fritz Kreutzpointner. Schumacher, only 22 and still months away from making his Formula 1 debut, delivered the race’s fastest lap of 3:35.564 (227.1 km/h). The C11 was a formidable Group C prototype powered by a 5.0-liter twin-turbo Mercedes M119 V8, producing tremendous speed and reaching approximately 343 km/h (213 mph). The #31 completed 355 laps and finished 5th overall, making it especially notable as the Le Mans car in which Schumacher demonstrated his exceptional endurance-racing talent before his legendary F1 career began.
